Over three decades since Tom Cruise starred in Days of Thunder, he may be considering reprising his role in the racing drama.

Sources confirmed that the 62-year-old Hollywood icon is in early talks with Paramount Pictures for a sequel to the 1990 NASCAR film, Deadline reported on Friday.

Not much is known about the potential project, and the outlet reported that details about the possible creative direction are under wraps.

The Top Gun star — who is footing the bill for his daughter Suri’s college tuition even though they haven’t been seen together in 11 years and she dropped his last name — notably met Nicole Kidman while filming on the set of the movie in 1989.

The Oscar-nominee starred in the action film alongside Kidman, who would go on to marry and later divorce.

It is unknown if Kidman will be involved in the movie, but considering rumors that Cruise skipped the 2023 Oscars to avoid an ‘awkward run-in’ with his ex, as DailyMail.com exclusively reported, it might be unlikely.

In Days of Thunder, which was directed by Tony Scott, Cruise stars as Cole Trickle, a hot-headed rookie stock car driver.

After joining NASCAR, he must overcome personal and professional challenges to achieve success.

His portrayal of the racer, alongside his 1986 action flick Top Gun, would cement his status as an action star.

While filming Days of Thunder, Cruise met and started a romance with Kidman — who played Dr. Claire Lewicki.

Less than one year after finalizing his divorce from Mimi Rogers, he tied the knot with Kidman — a year after meeting on Christmas Eve in 1990 — with an intimate ceremony in Telluride, Colorado.

The pair went on to collaborate on movies Far and Away as well as Eyes Wide Shut.

They were married for 11 years before divorcing in 2001, and share they two children together.

In 1992, they adopted a daughter named Isabella James, and in 1995, they adopted a son named Connor.

Kidman joined the Church of Scientology for Cruise but decided to leave in 1997.

She reportedly got Cruise to leave the church for a brief period of time, according to The Daily Beast.
