A tragic shooting took place on the evening of July 28, 2025, at a high-rise office building located at 345 Park Avenue, near E 52nd Street in Manhattan, New York. The attack resulted in the deaths of a NYPD officer, three civilians, and the shooter, who took his own life.
Timeline of the Incident
According to NYPD and local reports:

Around 6:30 PM, multiple 911 calls reported an armed individual inside the building.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect exiting a BMW parked on Park Avenue, carrying what appeared to be an M4/AR-15 style rifle. He entered the lobby and immediately shot a nearby NYPD officer.

He then fatally shot a woman hiding behind a pillar, continued to the reception area, and killed a security guard hiding behind the desk.

The shooter proceeded to the 33rd floor, where he killed another person before turning the weapon on himself.

The Suspect: Shane Devon Tamura

The suspect was identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. He had a background in youth football and a known history of mental health issues.

Tamura legally owned firearms and previously held a Nevada concealed carry permit, along with an expired private investigator license.

Authorities discovered prescription medication and documents in his vehicle, but no clear motive has been confirmed.
Victims of the Shooting

The fallen officer was Didarul Islam, 36 years old, an NYPD officer who had served for over three years. Originally from Bangladesh, he leaves behind two sons and a pregnant wife expecting their third child.

In addition to Islam, three civilians were killed. Another individual remains in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
