Jason Kelce has revealed Travis was cautious about telling him he was dating Taylor Swift in the early days of their romance.
Kelce and Swift went public with their relationship last September when the singer appeared in his VIP suite at Arrowhead Stadium to watch him play for Kansas City Chiefs against Chicago Bears.
But in the build-up, his older brother Jason revealed he didn’t know much more than what Travis said on their New Heights podcast about inviting her to a Chiefs game.
Speaking on the Pivot podcast, he revealed: ‘There was a lead-up to it, there was the whole thing on the pod about him trying to get a friendship bracelet to her, so I knew that there was something.
‘But I think he was very cautious about even telling me or anybody because the reality is she is under such a microscope.
Jason Kelce has opened up about the early days of brother Travis dating Taylor Swift
Kelce and Swift went public nearly a year ago in a story that dominated the NFL last season
‘I think they wanted to make sure everything was done in a way that was respectful to people’s privacy and I think they are still trying to do that.
‘Even now, I want to be respectful of them and I don’t want anybody to feel like there is like a perceived – like I am violating some sort of private relationship.
‘It’s really not my place to speak on their relationship but he is my brother and I am very happy for him. You just have to be conscious of how you are saying things because it is under such a microscope.’
It is nearly a year since they went public – Swift watched Kelce and the Chiefs beat the Bears on Sep. 24 last year and saw 13 games as Kelce and Kansas City won a second straight Super Bowl.
Swift is expected to be back at Arrowhead this Thursday as the Chiefs kick their season off against Baltimore Ravens.
Kelce and teammate Patrick Mahomes are spearheading an historic charge for the Chiefs as they target an unprecedented NFL ‘three-peat’.
For Jason, meanwhile, he makes the transition from player to analyst after retiring in the offseason after 13 years at Philadelphia Eagles.
He has joined ESPN to call games this season but has to wait until Week 5 before he can call a Monday Night Football game his brother is in.
The Chiefs host the New Orleans Saints that day and are back in action on Monday night in Week 9 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
