While they were dealing with a contract dispute with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the San Francisco 49ers were trying to work on a trade.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Niners were one of a handful of teams that inquired about trading for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson before this year’s NFL Draft.
But the Vikings never had any interest in moving on from their top-notch pass catcher and declined the offer from the Niners.
In addition to San Francisco, the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts also revealed their interest to the Vikings and they too were denied.
All these inquiries came before the Vikings inked Jefferson to a record deal in June that made him the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history.

That deal will see Jefferson get paid $140million over the next four years – with $110million guaranteed.
Eventually, the situation with Aiyuk was resolved – with the wideout getting paid $120m over four years.
On Sunday, the 49ers take on Jefferson and the Vikings – with head coach Kyle Shanahan praising the wideout before their matchup began.
‘There’s not an angle he can’t really run at — at full speed and drop his weight,’ Shanahan told reporters.

‘He’s also fearless in how he plays. His hands are as good as anyone. From what I’ve heard from people who have been with him, they say he’s one of the smartest players that people have been with. He’s the full package.’
Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said at the NFL scouting combine this February that trading Jefferson was never something that crossed his mind.
Jefferson won the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year award and set an NFL record for the most receiving yards across his first three seasons of his career.
