Jenna Ortega shared her horror film history and how it came full circle while working on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice while promoting the sequel on Wednesday on a talk show.
The 21-year-old actress during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was asked by Jimmy, 49, about the first horror movie she saw that got her hooked on the genre.
‘Well, I remember the first movie that terrified me. I think the first movie that terrified me was ”Child’s Play”,’ Jenna shared referencing the 1988 supernatural slasher film.
‘Chucky,’ chimed in Jimmy referencing the homicidal doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
‘Four or five years old, I remember I accidentally watched. I was like peaking around the corner cause I was very stubborn. And my parents were gone. It was parent-teacher night. And my uncle was watching us and they couldn’t find me for 30 minutes because I was rocking back and forth in a corner like ”He’s gonna get me”,’ Jenna said.

‘Swear to god. Swear to god. I was in my sibling’s closet,’ she added.
Jimmy noted that Jenna was ‘really traumatized’, but now makes that happen to people with her roles in slasher films including The Babysitter: Killer Queen, X and two Scream movies.
‘You got to face your own fears,’ Jenna quipped.
Jenna revealed how her childhood fear has come full circle in Tim Burton’s upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
‘It’s really weird too cause on ‘Beetlejuice,’ we did all practical effects so it’s like toys and interactive things which is so much better than staring at a tennis ball when you’re acting,’ Jenna said.
‘Oh, yeah. I see everything happening in front of me, but it’s also, it’s doll like. So Chucky was a doll, and then now I’m acting with dolls. It’s very strange,’ she said.
Jenna shared that she also has been working on the second season the hit Netflix show Wednesday.
She has taken on a producer role for the show’s second season.

‘Oh, my god. It’s been the best. I’ve never really done that on a TV show before,’ Jenna said.
Jenna said they discussed it during the first season and she enjoys being part of the conversations.
‘So, you know, I get to decide like how blue somebody is going to be or where the brains go on the floor,’ she said.
Jenna said her role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came from her existing relationship with director Tim Burton, 65, on Wednesday and he ‘definitely knew before I did’.
‘I remember hearing about it. Because the writers for ‘Wednesday’ are the writers of ‘Beetlejuice.’ So, I heard about that. And I was so excited about that. I congratulated them. And then, I just kind of forgot about it and, you know, went about my career, I guess.”
She recouted meeting Burton again before the Wednesday premiere where he asked for ideas about season two of the Netflix series.
‘When I went to, you know, open up my journal and present these ideas, he just placed the script of ‘Beetlejuice’ in my journal. And he didn’t tell anyone. He just said, ‘Oh, okay. There’s, you know, no pressure, Jenna. I think there’s a part for you. But again, if you don’t want to do it, like, don’t,’ she said.
‘I got in my car. And then, ten minutes later, I pulled over on the side of P.C.H., which is a big, you know, freeway in California,” she said. “I sat on the rocks in front of the water [for] an hour. And then, I called my team and I said ‘I can’t tell what you I’m agreeing to but I’m agreeing to it,’ she added.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice and is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 6.
