Producers vowed to ‘honor Chance and his legacy this season’

The late Chance Perdomo’s Gen V character Andre Anderson will not be recast, producers on the Amazon Prime series said on social media Sunday, just more than a month after the actor’s death at the age of 27 in a motorcycle accident in late March.

‘As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,’ a statement on the show’s Instagram account said. ‘We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance.

‘Instead, we have been taking the time and space to refract our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.’

The cast and producers were scheduled to gather on March 30, the day news broke of Perdomo’s fatal accident in upstate New York, according to Deadline, as he was headed to Toronto to work on the show.

Filming had been slated to commence April 8 in Toronto, according to the outlet, but production for the second season of Gen V was delayed in the wake of the tragedy.

Producers on the Amazon Prime series took to social media Sunday with a message about the creative direction of the program following the tragedy

In the spin-off to The Boys, Chance played Andre, who had magnetic manipulation super powers, alongside costars Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Asa Germann and Shelley Conn.

The announcement drew mixed reactions from fans in the comment section, as some thought it was the only way to move forward.

‘The most respectable way to do this,’ one fan said, while another said, ‘Mad respect for not re-casting.’

A user commended the show for the decision and their transparency throughout the process: ‘Respect. The fact you’ve addressed it to the public as well props to the entire team.’

Said one user: ‘Completely understandable, may he rest in peace.’

Some fans, while mourning Perdomo’s passing, said that they felt the character was essential to the storyline and should have been recast.

‘Sucks, a character shouldn’t be killed off when there’s still more to their story,’ one user said. ‘It’s not disrespectful to recast. Rip to the boy Chance, but we shouldn’t be losing out on a good character.’

Another fan said that while Perdomo ‘was great,’ they wished producers ‘just picked another actor to play the character’ to continue ‘a certain storyline that the show must keep on.’
